• Our Reclaimed Woods

  Sadly, many old buildings in New England are being torn down due to the high cost of restoration, and in some cases, neglect. We buy boards from people who would otherwise burn them, or take them to the local transfer station. The natural colors and rich textures of these boards is amazing! We hand sand and hand plane, to leave all that rich history for you to enjoy in your new "old" farm table or custom dining tables. We search out wide boards that were sawn in the 18th 0r 19th century and used to build a house or barn, means that the tree itself was already 100-200 years old!...That makes the wood in your table top almost 400 years old in some cases. Our Inventory of reclaimed wood includes more exceptional,wide Pine and Fir boards than ever! This is just one part of what makes our Handmade Farm Tables and other custom dining tables so special.

• New England Farm Tables...Cottage Series

  Introducing our new line up of classic New England Farm Tables...We are offering a good old fashioned farm table with removable legs.. either a Shaker style tapered leg, or a simple country style turned leg. The finihes will be either a hand applied,milk painted base with a natural top, or a warm, rich stained table, top and bottom, and offered in three different sizes and available from either of our locations. These tables will be built with the same care and attention to detail as our custom tables, without all the "bells and whistles" Back to basics we call it....For those who need a simple table, built well from quality materials, this is the way to go. As soon as we have a few in the showroom, we'll add some pictures here.   These are some of the beautiful handmade round, oval, and elliptical custom dining tables we have built over the years. Each one was a custom order with very specific requirements. We love a round dining table as it allows for everyone to be a part of the conversation.

• Joinery Techniques

  When you come to us for a piece of handmade, custom furniture, we offer a 360 degree look at what you can expect. Nothing is hidden or covered up, no corners cut. Most importantly, we want you to be an educated consumer. From the moment you step into our workshop or showroom, we will guide you through each phase of construction, from beginning to end. Jim employs precise joinery techniques such as hand cut dovetails, true mortise and tenons, pegs and wedges,(to name a few) in place of modern day fastners or quick and easy short-cuts. Even if you choose not to purchase a piece of furniture from us, you will leave, knowing more about the importance of quality joinery, and what goes into each of our pieces. So, don't be afraid to ask questions, look underneath, or inside.... We welcome you to SEE beyond the LOOK!

• Bread Board Ends

  The bread board ends on our handmade farm tables and other custom dining tables are done the old way, with precision joinery. They actually serve a purpose, in that the help to hold the table top flat. and trim off the end of the table. They also add an attractive element with the beautiful Curly Maple. The tenons are part of the top, not just screws driven in and covered up with bungs to make it look like the real thing. The pictures below show how exacting and time consuming the process is.

• Forest Furnishings

  Our Forest Furnishings draws insipration from the woods on Cape Ann, MA. There the native New England Eastern Red Cedar trees get bent by heavy snow loads and take on shapes like no other trees. Jim can walk through the woods and see just the right braches for our beds or other furniture. The ones we select are all "dead & down". No live trees are harvested for our furniture. These trees when used for furniture bring a sense of "refined rustic" to any style of furniture.

• Self Storing Extension tables

  New England Joinery has different styles of self storing extension tables. The leaves store inside right inside the table.
